Wrist Warmers – November 2013

As the autumn weather draws in and the days get shorter, it is a time when knitters turn their attention once again to the lovely creations made possible with a simple pair of needles and some gorgeous yarn.

Being a busy working mum, practicality is always important. Having looked at many online patterns, and taking the best parts of what I found  I have come up with this, I do love gloves, but they are a bit of a pain, constantly having to take them off and put them on again whilst shopping. The perfect compromise to keep your hands warm are these cosy wrist warmers.

I used one 100g ball of Rowan Pure Wool Aran (Colour – Burlesque) available to purchase at Butterfly Bright who now have a lovely range of Rowan yarns in stock, it didn’t take me long to knit these with a pair of 5mm straight needles and I used a tapestry needle for sewing up.

Gauge is not critical for this project.

Stitch pattern

Worked starting with a right side row

Row 1 – K2 (P2, K2) to the end

Row 2 – P2 (K2, P2) to the end

Row 3 – Knit all stitches

Row 4 – Knit all stitches

Start at the cuff

Cast on 34 using your preferred method (I use the long tail cast on as it gives a nice stretchy edge)

Work two pattern repeat (Row 1- 8)

Row 9 – 16 Stocking stitch (knit one row, purl one row)

Work 7 pattern repeats (Row 17 – 45)

Resume stocking stitch for a further 6 rows (Row 45 – 50)

One more pattern repeat (Row 51 – 54)

Cast off knitwise.

Fasten off leaving a long enough tail to sew up.

Starting at the cuff turn work right sides together and begin sewing up, leave approximately an inch for your thumb hole and then sew up the remaining stitches.

postscript – Rowan Yarns have sadly now discontinued this Aran yarn but you could use an alternative Aran weight yarn instead.
