Crochet Poncho for a child

Supplies:

3.5mm crochet hook

At least 2 balls of Rowan Wool Cotton 4ply (but really you can use any yarn with an appropriate size hook)

Tapestry needle to sew in ends

Method

This versatile child’s poncho is perfect for the transition from summer to autumn weather and can be made in a comfortable wool cotton mix or a pure wool for a really cosy extra layer.

Starting row. Chain 75
Row 1
Tr into 4th chain from end (first 4 ch count as tr st), tr in next 2 ch, * 1ch, tr into next 3 ch. Repeat from * to end (24 x 3 tr groups). 1ch and ensuring the work is not twisted join to the top of the starting 3 ch.
Row 2
Work (3ch, 2tr, 3ch, 3 tr) in same ch sp to make first corner.
1 ch, 3 tr into every ch sp until you reach the 12th ch sp.
(3tr, 3ch, 3tr) into 12th ch sp to make second corner.
1ch, 3tr into each ch space to the end, join with htr to top of first 3ch.
Continue to add rows until you reach the desired size changing colour if you want to, these ponchos look great in a rainbow of colours! Weave in the ends with your tapestry needle.
Wearing the poncho, the ‘corners’ sit to the front and rear to achieve that perfect poncho look.
