The weather has taken a seasonal change in temperature, leaving many of us in the UK reaching for the gloves, hats and scarves.

And it’s no different in the Butterfly Bright household….

My daughter set me a challenge a few weeks ago, she requested for this winter, an orange scarf, rainbow hat and red mittens…

Never one to shirk from such a challenge I set to work, the scarf was first, completed in an afternoon, using a nice chunky crochet hook and a ball of the now sadly discontinued Rowan pure wool Aran in gorgeous pumpkin colour.

Secondly, the rainbow hat, I spent a little time on this one as I needed to make sure the 7 colours were evenly distributed whilst also making a cosy warm and wearable hat. Again, Rowan yarns came to the rescue with the array of colours available in their Pure Wool dk range, specifically – kiss, gold, avocado, cloud, indigo and ultra (I had to cheat with the ‘orange’ stripe as Rowan didn’t have a suitable option)…

Finally, with the sudden change of weather over the weekend (we were paddling in the sea and building sandcastles on the 1st Nov, by the 2nd Nov we were digging out the winter woollies!)

I had to finish the challenge with the mittens. I found a wonderful website http://www.freevintageknitting.com and came across the perfect pattern…

So armed with a ball of Rowan pure wool dk in Kiss, a set of needles and a small child with cold hands I set to work, 24 hours later….

Ta, da…
